The Hamiltonstövare dog is a hunting hound, developed in Sweden. Its unusual name carries the name of its developer – Count Adolf Hamilton. He was actually also the founder of the Swedish Kennel Club. As a matter of fact, Hamiltonstövare dogs derived from German hounds and English Foxhounds.

This dog breed is very well known by its white blaze on head, neck, paws and white tip on their tail. These dogs have a rectangular body shape, they have a very sturdy construction and are normally tricolored.

They have a long head as well as a moderately broad scull. The muzzle is fairly long and large. The neck is long and powerful. Their nose is black with large nostrils. Eyes are dark brown and these dogs have a very peaceful expression. The ears are set high with a straight fall.

Front legs are straight and parallel. The hind legs are muscle and well developed. When seen from the side, they are slightly broad. Hamiltonstövare dogs have their tail set on low. It is also wide at base and narrows towards tip. It is slightly curved but not carried above backline.

The fur of Hamiltonstövare dogs consists of two layers. Their undercoat is short but soft, however it is very thick during the winter. The upper coat is weather-resistant. As for the color, this dog breeds can be black and brown, meaning that the body is usually black while the head and legs can be brown. This dog breed has white markings on paws, chest, tail, and upper part of muzzle.

This dog breed is very friendly, while at the same time being a hardworking hunter. As much as it is happy being with its owner and its family, these dogs are also happy to be outdoors hunting. However, people should keep on mind that Hamiltonstövare dogs are not for everyone. They can be stubborn, or some people might consider them too loud as they can be very vocal. Hamiltonstövare dogs are multi-purpose animals as they can be excellent pets or show dogs or hunters.
